Summer Saturdays: Bringing Accessible Arts Programming to Downtown Milton

The Mosaic Bridge team with the finished collaborative canvas.

Mosaic Bridge participated in Summer Saturdays, a community event hosted by the Milton Downtown Business Improvement Area (BIA) that brought together local businesses, organizations, and residents to celebrate downtown Milton! We hosted our own interactive booth, offering free, hands on arts activities designed to be accessible to people of all ages and skill levels.

The centrepiece of our booth was a collaborative mosaic canvas. Throughout the day, children, youth, parents, and other community members each contributed a piece of artwork to the canvas, building one collective work that reflected the range of people who took part. Alongside it, we ran additional activity stations including doodling, face painting, Twister, and Tetris, giving visitors even more ways to take part regardless of artistic experience!

Beyond the activities, our team loved connecting directly with the community. We spoke with parents, educators, business owners, and residents about our mission and programs, and shared information packages, including QR codes and resources, so attendees could learn more about our workshops, publications, and volunteer opportunities.

The event also led to an unplanned collaboration. Halton area musician James Madio was performing nearby, and after connecting with our team, he invited two of our singers to join him for a live performance! It was a small but genuine example of the kind of connection that can happen when community spaces are open and welcoming to artists.

Overall, Summer Saturdays gave Mosaic Bridge a chance to introduce our work to new people, build relationships with families and local organizations, and show, through direct participation, what accessible arts programming can look like in practice.
